Getting into college could be made easier if you don’t obsess over the school rankings. You could try to test other pastures and see where it takes you. After all, the average college admits 70% of the applicants, according to an admissions expert.

Don’t choose colleges merely based on ratings.

Rankings can be pretty impressive. Schools at the top, however, attract a larger number of applicants. If you want to try out, don’t let anybody stop you. However, keep in mind that your success and happiness may depend not on the college’s ranking but the school’s suitability to your goals.

Find ways to be involved in the college even before applications.

Study the college(s) you want to apply to. Try to find ways in which you can participate in their open house activities. Attempt to establish contacts while you are at it while absorbing as much information as you can about the academic institutions. This way, you have something extra to talk about during your admissions interview. You may also present some contacts from within the school itself. You may be commended and even rewarded for all your efforts.

Keep mum about the applications process.

When you become familiar with the applications process of a particular college, don’t just dish it out to others. Be considerate.

Of course, make sure that you have good enough grades and enough satisfactory extra-curricular or community experiences to qualify you to the college.
